  • Limiting Bitrate on H264 convertion

    Hi guys!

    I have a .mov captured with BlackMagic – a uncompressed file 1920×1080. It’s about 250 gb.

I need to convert to a h264 for exibition on a WD player.
So, I went to the Mpeg Stream Clip software. Export my file like a QuickTime, and here is the settings:

    Compression: h264
    Quality: 100%
    2pass on
    b-frames on

BUT, I need to limit may bitrate to 40Mbps, because is the best bit rate that my WD player can read.

But, when playng on WD, the video stops, because there’s a bit rate peak!!!

Someone knows why it happens? And there’s some solution for my file realy fits 40mbps?

    Thanks
    (sorry my english)

Just use Limit Data Rate setting right there in the interface.

To view bit rate over time use the free BitRate Viewer. Windows only but works fine with Parallels or Bootcamp Mac.

    Hi Craig!

I did it! I limited in 40mbs, but when I play with the WD player the video stops and there’s a message saing that’s because the bitrate is too high (140mbs)…

You may need to check with Bitrate Viewer.
It could be overshooting. It could be that a Quality of 100% conflicts with the Limit. You may need to lower the Quality setting. For better control you’d probably want to use a professional encoding tool like Telestream Episode or Sorenson Squeeze.

40mbps is pretty high….I’ll bet if you encode one at 10mbps you won’t tell the difference between the two…but the 10mbps will actually play.
