  • Limit to the number of Cineon files AE can import?

Posted by Jack Kelly on June 11, 2005 at 12:23 am

    Hi,

Is there an upper limit to the number of Cineon files AE can import? I need to import about 20 minute’s worth of DPX files into AE. I can easily import small selections of files. But when I try to import 20 minute’s worth of DPX files, the select dialogue box goes away and then nothing happens.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Jack

    Isn’t that 350 gigabytes? yowza
I wouldn’t recommend importing more than a couple hundred frames at a time. you’ll run out of ram fast. Each frame is about 12 megabytes.
    good luck

    Hi guys,

Thanks a lot for your replies… I figured it out…

I was getting problems when I was selecting the DPX files by shift-clicking in the “import footage” dialogue box. But I don’t get any problems if I just select the first DPX file and then tick the “import Cineon sequence” box. AE happily imports as many DPX files as I give it.

My system seems quite happy with the files. I’ve split it into two sections – the longest is 17 minutes long (at 25fps). Of course, it can only load a few files into RAM at once but it still manages fine (by “fine” I mean it can play back the files at about 2fps!)

    Thanks,
    Jack
