I will be producing a live broadcast of a sporting event that runs 8 hours a day for two days. I would like to record a non-stop version of the broadcast as we run it live. Has any one used Vegas’ capture element to record eight hours non-stop? Should I expect any problems with sync etc? I would be using a large external drive for each eight hour segment, Thanks for your input

I see no reason why it would not work just fine.

Thanks for the quick answer Ed. I hope you are feeling well. One other question. After I’ve captured the video can I play it back with a loop function to feed a cable channel over night. Basically it would have to play twice and then we would go back to live programming the second day?

You’re wanting to play it back straight from the timeline? I suppose it would work. I would NOT try to “loop” it – instead just put it on the timeline twice. OR, render it out to a single file, and use the CAPTURE program to output the video twice (i.e. just add it to it twice).

OOPS, I forgot about the rendering. I won’t have time to render it as it needs to start as soon as the live broadcast is finished. It will be going into a cable channel multiplexer for broadcast to a private channel. Do you think that playback through a deck as a convertor would work.

Capture straight to DV-AVI via Vegas VidCap. As soon as it’s over, drop the DV-AVI file into the print portion of VidCap and have VidCap play it back. It won’t have to render anything but will simply play it back via firewire. Another option you might look at is Scenalyzer Live.
