I’d love to send an object with it’s light into mograph but I need each light to only light it’s partner object and not any of the other clones.
I tried using the hierachy node in Expresso to send the parent’s object into the inclusion area in the lights project tab but that didn’t work ( both in mograph and just as a stand alone test. Is there a way to control this kind of thing if the objects are inside a cloner? Is there a correct way to do this using the heirarchy node? (the objects port in the project area of the input side of the light node doesn’t accept… wait for it…. objects).
Is there a simple “just light parent” command for my own edification? Even if it wouldn’t survive the journey through a cloner?

I’d have to look at the Xpresso when I have more time. I guess it wouldn’t work just to use a relatively small light falloff?

I went back to an old cinema and sure enough if you child a light to an object it only lights that object up. But not in R 16 through 18

Found a solution: go to the light’s Project tab, set the mode to Include, and drag your clone object into the include box.

Ya I tried that, all clones get all lights with that one.
I think it was a hold over from an old prefs file. ( this machine has a number of versions of c4d on it so perhaps not the cleanest prefs files) I wiped the prefs file (for reasons that will appear in the next post) and now if you child a light to a parent, that light only illuminates it’s parent even when shoved through a cloner. Just like it used to.

That’s peculiar. I don’t ever remember a version of Cinema where hierarchy had anything to do with light inclusion/exclusion, and I’ve been using Cinema since R6.

We’re on PC now, but way back when (R5 I think) we were on Mac and we used to use that trick before the inclusion wasn’t as robust as it is now. With the new prefs file it even now works in R16 again and pushed through a cloner. Very handy!
