Activity Forums Creative Community Conversations Lightroom CC or 6

I realize this is OT for an FCP X crowd, but since I discussed photo apps in a recent thread, I figured I’d post this here. Adobe released Lightroom CC today. If you purchase the standalone/perpetual version, it’s called Lightroom 6. What you need to know is this now requires a graphics card with OpenGL 3.3 or higher. Older cards like an ATI 5870 do not qualify. The app will launch and then immediately close. Lightroom 5 is still fine on these older machines.

The ATI Radeon 5870 supports OpenGL 4.1 on Yosemite. It should be valid for Lightroom 6 or CC.

OK, that could be the issue I was seeing. The machine I did the initial testing on was not Yosemite. When I looked up the card specs, it says 3.2. I suppose Yosemite installs updated drivers.

Anyone know if Lightroom CC or 6 is available as part of the Adobe Photograhic plan or is it a separate subscription.

Simple question which I just couldn’t find answer to. Probably putting wrong search question in google.

At the moment I have Lightroom 5 as part of the Photoshop / Lightroom package.

Lr CC would be part of the full CC or the Photographic subscription AFAIK. Lr 6 is the version you can purchase as a perpetual license.

Confirmed. My home 2009 MP running 10.10.3 with a 5870 card is fine with Lightroom CC.

Thanks Oliver – sorry for transatlantic delay in responding . . It’s now appeared on my CC installer and I’m currently downloading Lightroom CC.

Have to say I’m feeling bit spoilt with all this new software – amazing

And by the way nice to actually see you on Larry Jordons NAB show – for those that missed it . . .
