As I’m waiting to receive my card reader for my Mac to see my Canon 7D, I just discovered that Lightroom sees AND imports .mov files from my camera.

Does anyone have an inherent problem with that routine? Am I missing something, or if Lightroom is convenient, carry on!

    Thanks

You will still need to convert them for editing in FCP.

Understood, but I’ve been studying the clips I converted (Lightroom-to-MPEG Streamclip) since my original post earlier, and I can’t visually see any degradation in the video. So, I’m assuming from this, if MGEG Streamclip is an acceptable converter (to ProRes422LT)in this Forum’s opinion, then it’s the same end result (but with one extra step) as it would be using a card reader and FC Log & Transfer.

    Agreed?

I also just learned converting the 7D clips to ProRes is tripling the file size. Gonna need another hard drive!

You need to archive the full card. Not just convert the footage from the card and use that. But actually back up the full card to a separate hard drive from your media drive. Your ARCHIVE DRIVE. This will be, in essence, your tape backup. Because if you import the footage, but don’t save the originals, and lose the media drive they are on…yikes.
