Lightning Hit
Posted by Simon Hannon on September 8, 2007 at 1:13 pmHiya
I want someone to be hit by an electric force.
How would everyone here go about doing that?
Can electricity affect a mask or alpha channel?IGGY35

September 8, 2007 at 4:16 pmAdvanced Lightning can be setup to be affected by an Alpha Channel. Trapcode’s Shine would be ideal for the Lightning Hit effect. A wee bit of smoke after the hit would be nice. Check the COW’s AE Tutorial base for creating smoke.

September 9, 2007 at 5:41 pmi just did some lighting with advanced lightning and a hell of a lot of vector painting in a web show i do, called “the defenders of stan”

the lightning is somewhere towards the end. the advanced lighting is great because it will adhere itself to masks and/or alpha channels.

September 9, 2007 at 5:44 pmbut, it also depends on exactly what you mean by ‘hit by an electric force.

September 9, 2007 at 7:44 pmI have a video of a guy falling into a river.
I wanna have someone be throwing like a ball of electricity at him, and it to hit him in the chest so that electricity seems to spread across his body,..you know like when someone has their finger in the electric socket and its going up the arm and around the chest.
Like in the return of the living dead part 2 ending.
Lightning is one of the many plugins that i can’t do anything with,..all i can ever get is just the one line of electric.
I tried making and animating a mask to follow him as he falls into the water..used alpha obstacle and it just looks like lightning behind a mask.
plus i also was gonna try for electricity in the water as he lands in it..and maybe goes outward with the ripples of the water.IGGY35

September 9, 2007 at 8:17 pmone thing you could do is vector paint the person frame for frame and use that vector info as an emitter point for something like particular, or export an image sequence of the vector paint for particle illusion.
the other thing, equally as time consuming, is vector painting the electricity archs in vector paint.

September 10, 2007 at 4:44 pmI think you should put more time into exploring the Advanced lightning effects. You should be able to get mroe than one line of lightning, there are many options to branch this effect and increase the intensity. Or pre-comp several layers of lightning together. Trapcode plugins, such as shine, will enhance the effect. Toss a glow on. I think Particular might even have a default star shape setting, which if you make really small could look like sparks. Or, you can have some flashes (basically small white solids with corresponding linear wipes going outward) to make the initial hit look more real, or “sparky.”
