Hi, we are working on a 8192 x 576 pixel After Effects build using 3D and lights with shadows.
All of the source files are 1 PSD layered build. Most of the layers being lit are working properly and casting shadows but a number of layers are not. They are not casting shadows when all their settings are correct. We use lights & shadow often so are confused as to why this problem exists?
Is there a maximum number of layers limit with lights & shadows?
    Is there a Memory issue?

    System info
    Apple Quad Intel
    13Gig RAM
    ATA Internal RAID
    AE CS3
    Photoshop CS3

    ANy help would be appreciated
    Thanks

OK we have sorted it. It was a problem between Photoshop and AfterEffects CS3. There was some layer options applied some layers in the PSD Builds (Darken / Multiply) This caused problems once the layers had been taken into AE CS3. We removed the layer Blend options in Photoshop and this solved the problems. Another way of solving it was to Delete the LAYER OPTIONS in AE from that offendinf layer.
    Hope this helps >>>>>>>>

There are no limits I can remember, at least not in the size you are talking about. I already worked on 32000*1500 comps in AE without problems (if the system is set up properly! Which means a lot of problems).

Make sure you don’t havbe some 2D layers (i.e. Adjustment layers) between the lights and the 3D layers which should cast/accept the lights and shadows, because the 2D layers act like “dividers” (sorry, forgot the right term).

Sorry, I can’t think of more to help you

EDIT: OK, I was too slow 😉
