    I have some footage that has very flat lighting, and I’d like to add some subtle shadows, background light, and possibly even a small hair light…in post.

    Is this possible with Motion? [Apple]Color?

    Um sorta. There’s a fair amount you can do in Color with some practice but a flat shot is a flat shot.

    You could always add a spotlight in Motion to make things a bit more interesting.

    You will need to separate the items using rotoscoping if you want to apply lights or effects to specific areas.

    I agree. A flat shot is a flat shot. If you really want to fix it you will need to look into using bezier type masks to darken and lighten certain parts of the shot. It will take a lot of work especially if your shot is moving a lot. Best of luck.

    Luckily this is just a talking head clip, and so there’s not a ton of movement. I’ll update my results on here once I get to that point in post. Thanks for all the tips!
