LIGHTHOUSE effect
Posted by Brad Jones on May 17, 2007 at 7:01 pmHey everyone, just shot a commercial for a company that has a LIGHTHOUSE as their logo (Beacon Fincance Corp) and was wanting to animate the light in the light house, anyone have any ideas on how to go about doing this??? I just think it would add tremendously to the commercial. I sure hope someone has some ideas.
Thanks a ton!

Click on the link at the bottom of the page, the second to last sentence is the “Download the script” link. Put the .jsx file into the AE Scripts Folder. An earlier user of this had rendering problems,

when he copied the Script Text file with his Safari using “Copy File”, he got “funny little text objects” between each line of the expressions, when he deleted these everything was OK. I just downloaded the .jsx like I said and all was fine.
This is the only soution I know of for the Luxless.

May 18, 2007 at 12:05 amActually, I’ve already been there and done that for a recent project.
Lux is one great solution, but there is another good one. I did the beam with Tinderbox T_beam. I used the rotating beacon to reveal the client logo and gave it some glow every time the beam passed behind it.
I built the Lighthouse using Zaxwerks Invigorator and a single custom bevel. I threw in some animated sky and Psunami for the water. It worked very well.

Be patient for the file to load – it’s about 6 megs in its current form and not designed for fast-load.

May 18, 2007 at 12:46 pmFor me, the devil is in the details. The light beam effect is not in the same 3D space as the lighthouse, but if you closely examine the top of the lighthouse, the beam does appear to make that transition from in-front-of to behind. I did this by splitting the beam layer and changing the opacity of the sections duuring the critical phase. The light beam also appears to affect the light on the front of the lighthouse. It doesn’t, but I used another bit of trickery to fake it.
