Activity Forums Adobe After Effects Expressions Light tracking?

Hey all I’m just discovering the joys of AE6.5 and I had a question…

In my recent project I’m trying to have about 8 clips pan in and out of the frame over a period of 15-20 seconds. They will be going over a darkened and possibly colorized/blurred background in order to pop out a bit. Now the layer blending options didn’t seem to have the vibrant look that I wanted so I’ve decided to put spotlights on all 8 of the clips.

Now, I’m trying to figure out how to make the POI of the light follow its respective clip. I’m willing to hand keyframe all the lights but I think there may be a more efficient way to have them follow their clip. I tried parent the lights with the clips, but all that did was make them pan along with their respective clip. Isn’t there a way for the lights to stay where they are and just ROTATE so the POI is tracked with the clip?

yoo unna stand da words dat are comingOUt ofa my moUF? 🙂

How about just linking the light’s Point of Interest property to the clip’s Position property using an expression. Just Option/Alt click on the POI property stopwatch for the light and drag the expression pickwhip up to the clip’s position property and hit Enter. Now where every the clip moves the light’s POI will follow.
