  • Light Streaks null problem (Image Included) HELP

Posted by Dan Williams on January 4, 2009 at 12:46 pm

I have followed andrew kramer’s ‘Light Strokes 2’ tutorial and I have set the light streaks to use a null’s position which is motion tracking a point in my video.
All is well, but there is one problem, a ‘still image’ of my custom particle shows at the starting point of the particle animation, I have tried lots of things for example deleting the first keyframe of the null object but the image still shows up.
Image of what happens (Click on thumbnail):

Help is greatly appreciated 🙂 ,
    Thanks,

    Dan.

EDIT: I managed to make the picture dissapear a bit but the beginning of the streak is still very vivid and you can just about see the ‘picture’ of the particle and after creating a different null the picture now shows at the end of the light streak.

No ideas, sorry. My solution to these things is to place some handles on the beginning and ending of comp. Give yourself some room in time, what you might call pre- and post-roll. If your start and end points are critical, try creating a copy of your comp (or using expressions so you don’t have to keep changing each copy every time you make minor tweaks) and setting the streaks to much lower values. In your editing app, you would make invisible transitions between the two movies from AE.

I did a quick test, think you need to either start the motion before you need it (Like the ‘handles’ mentioned by bogiesan). Or, try keyframing the ‘life’ to a small amount at the beginning of the motion and then increasing it as the particle moves away from the start point.

Basically i think you’re creating a bunch of particles right at the start of your animation which are staying static and not ‘dying’ quickly enough.
