    Hi there,
I guess this is a newbie question. I have an object with little lights running around its edge. These are a radial-cloned light, unchecked in the object manager, but with a glow enabled in the light’s lens tab. This is the exact look I want, especially when the camera is in close-up. The light is unchecked in the object manager as I don’t want the array light to affect the scene lighting.
However, to make the lights appear behind the object when it is at a certain angle, I have to have the ‘fade if behind object’ box checked in the lens tab. My problem is, this doesn’t really ‘fade’ the lights as they disappear from view. Rather they ‘pop’ in and out, which looks rather distracting. Is there any way around this? Is there a way of replicating this very look with physical objects (to have a sphere resemble the lens glow effect for instance, which would actually ‘fade’ as it goes behind an object)?
    Thank you,
    Phil

It should work better if you also check “fade if near border” and “fade if approaching object”. If that doesn’t do it you could try replacing the light with an object that has a glow material on it. If neither of those do it you might have to render without any fading and then do it in post with the object buffer from the occluding object(s).
