I installed Nucleo Pro 2 on AE CS3 (Windows, 4 CPU, 8Gig RAM) – works great, renders FAST, no problems. A few days later I installed Knoll Light Factory 2.5 and am not having as good of luck.

With any of the NP2 “Spec” render or preview features enabled, Nucleo crashes when a Knoll preset is applied. Without Nucleo “enabled” in the project, AE CS3 crashes when Knoll is applied (to a comp solid). Further, when crashed AE gives the “last chance” to save the project before closing – if the project is saved AE crashes when that project is reopened.

The system seems to be stable otherwise, and after uninstalling Knoll 2.5, I haven’t had any problems rendering in AE or Nucleo.

Anyone else had similar experience that resulted in a fix or workaround?

Unfortunately its a known issue with Light Factory. Double unfortunately, its a problem with Light Factory. The good folks at Red Giant Software are aware of the problem, and assure a patch is forthcoming.

If they are aware of the problem, they don’t seem to want to admit it.

This is the response that I got from Red Giant:
