Licensing Question
Hello all. I have written a script that uses the framework of the Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol”. The only thing that is similar is the use of the three ghosts. (I know that is a huge similarity.) Do I have a legal issue? Will I need to license the rights to the story because the framework is similar? Does it matter that it contains many parody elements?

You’ll not have a legal issue (as long nothing is taken ver badem) so much as just get picked on for lack of creativity.
Call it a spoof and it’s satire. Copy and you’re just a tool.

Dickens is public domain, hence everyone has lifted from it for “Christmas special” material every year. To the best of my knowledge there is no “Dickens Estate” or other body that holds rights to any of his works. -R
