if you have the luxury of trying it in another computer, this would be wise. But you tried 2 different slots, and the AJA Control Panel
reports “no hardware found” – you have a dead card.

The only other possiblity is that you have a hairline fracture in the MAC G5 Quad buss (the logic board). If you have a defective motherboard, your computer is useless, and another card won’t help you. You can determine this by putting this LHe into another MAC. If it works – it’s your computer. If it doesn’t work – it’s your card.

Thanks Bob, you’ve echoed my feeling about this. Fortunately a friendly local reseller (not the one the kit came from) has offered to test the card, so it’s going up to them ASAP so we can rule it out. Double fortunately they still have AppleCare for another couple of months.

We’ll see how it goes!

reading further (which I should have done first) dropping in to the dealer is a good move as they’ll have another Mac to help troubleshoot in case it’s the motherboard.

Either way just wanted to highlight the advanced replacement service here if you need it.

Thanks for that Matty, I don’t know who their original dealer was but QuadLogic in Bristol have the card at the moment, they’ll have a look and if it’s faulty I’ll get them to get in touch with Danielle.
