I need to make 4:3 letterboxed mpeg video using compressor. My footage is PAL 16:9 anamorphic with 2.35:1 letterboxing. Which letterboxing filter should i use in compressor – 1.66 or 1.78, to maintain the propper aspect ratio in 4:3 format. Please help, i’m really lost. Both look good and i don’t know which is right.

Never mind. I did 1:66 and compared it to FCP 4:3 sequence with my footage and it looks the same.

In the future, simply check the anamorphic box when creating your MPEG2 files, this activates the anamorphic flag, which is part of the DVD spec, and your DVD will automatically play letterboxed on a 4×3 TV and full screen on a 16×9 TV. You needn’t use the letterbox filter at all.

Thx, but that was the point – i needed to make it 4:3. Somebody asked me for that kind of MPEG file, not for DVD.
