letterboxing in quicktime export does not work
Hi,
I have made a movie in 16:9 and I want it letterboxed (bars at the top and bottom)
sequence settings: Frame Size 720×576 ccir 601 / dv pal (5:4)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: PAL – CCIR 601 (720×567) Anamorphic 16:9 box checkedI want to make a quicktime conversion export
I have the following settings:
Quick time
H.264
Frame rate: current
Key Frames: every 25 frames
Datarate automatic
quality: high
Encoding: Best qualityFilter: none
Size: Custom 640×360 (i’ve also tried 640×480 and the two pal settings)
preserve aspect ratio using letterbox checked
Deinterlace sorse video uncheckedWhen I export the video I get bars at the sides instead of bars at the top and bottom.
How do i get bars at the top and bottom?

what your doing is the right steps. not sure why that wouldn’t work.
in fcp make a new sequence and nest the anamorphic sequence into it.
it will letterbox it.
export that instead.

This does not work.
But there is a solution i heard today.
Make your original sequence settings anamorphic
Make a new sequence with in the settings anamorphic unchecked
Drag the original sequence in the new sequence, FCP asks you if you want to change the sequence settings, hit the no button and voila!
Now you have a letterboxed film which you can export
