I got some widescreen letterboxed footage on DigiBeta tape. My clients wants a DVD which they can play on widescreen TV but with no letterbox bars. What should I do? Import it in a DV PAL anamorphic sequence and zoom in? Or…

    Tnx

That is about the only thing that you can do if that is the only way it exists. DVDs need to have the footage encoded anamorphic with the 16×9 flag set in order to show it properly on a widescreen TV.
It might be worth checking with your client to see if they have the movie on another format that is not letterboxed. They probably didn’t shoot it letterboxed so it might exist somewhere as HD footage or even standard definition anamorphic.

You’ll have to zoom it – and lose quality – if that’s the only version you’ve got.

Minimise the damage and capture it at the highest quality, so 10-bit uncompressed would be preferable here. You’ll see a difference (even with it ending up on DVD) in your zoomed footage.
