Bob, will using a 3GB SATA Maxx raid array connected directly to my computer be fast enough to lay off 1080p ProRes 422 (HQ) to HDCam? If so, how about HD Cam SR?

Maxx Digital, just like every other company (G-Tech, Cal Digit, Sonnet, Dulce, Rorke) make great stuff, and crap stuff.
I don’t know what a “3GB SATA Maxx RAID” is.
If you want Maxx Digital, and if you want a GREAT product, you buy this –
    https://www.maxxdigital.com/evo-2k-expando.html
is a world class product. However, other products from Maxx Digital (and Cal Digit, Sonnet, G-Tech, Dulce, etc.) are not of this quality.

Yes, the expensive stuff is more reliable. Will the cheaper stuff record HD Cam and HDCam SR – yes, because even a single internal SATA drive for $55 dollars will record ProRes422HQ from an HD Cam or HDCam SR.

You can say “well, what about G-Tech”, or “what about “Cal Digit” – it’s the same story for all these companies – either you use TOP QUALITY HOST ADAPTORS with ENTERPRISE SATA or SAS drives, or you don’t. The reason the cheaper products are cheaper, are because they use cheaper components.
