    Hi,

    I’m on 10.5.2.

When I do a search through Finder, it doesn’t find files that I KNOW are there.

I’ve got about 4 FW800 drives daisy-chained, and one other Mac with 2-3 drives connected via the network.

But Finder is having a hard time finding files on several of the drives.

Is there a way to index the Finder to force it to search all drives, or is the problem the more probably ‘user’ [ie, me doing some shtoopid].

To clarify, my Finder can SEE all the drives, and I navigate, copy, etc via the finder, it just doesn’t seem to SEARCH all the drives, all the time.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Wayne

    Hi Wayne,
The problem may come from FC, or may come from your System.
When I have this kind of problems I start by making sure that the System is OK. You have thousand more possibilities of a malfunction in the System than in FC. If after optimizing the System-HDs, the problem remais, then I start to clean FC.
So, repair permissions, cleaning caches and DiskWarrior or TechTools. If no improvement, trash permissions, etc
    Cheers,

I’ve seen this a lot when I batch export a large number of files.

It seems spotlight needs “some” time to update its database before it can find stuff.

This can vary from a couple of seconds to about an hour…

Make sure your Spotlight Prefs (System Prefs>Spotlight>Privacy) allow indexing of those volumes, which, as mentioned, does take some time to do. You could also use, as I do, a third-party search app such as DevonTechnologies’ EasyFind . Fast, and easily customized to search wherever and for whatever files you wish.
