I created a black solid, added a lens flare, and set the transfer mode to Add. When I view the Alpha Channel, the black is appearing somewhat opaque. I do not understand why this is happening. Any solutions?

What’s to understand? You didn’t change any values on the Alpha channel, so it naturally is fully opaque. Most belnd modes only work on the color channels. If you need Alpha, the nunmultiply using XMult, Knoll Unmult or Walker Alpha tool.

I completely understand what you are saying, but I am not sure which tools you are referencing. Could you please explain further. Thanks

You could have tried googling “Knoll Unmult”… But basically it created an alpha channel for elements on a black background. Originally aimed at compositing explosion footage, but works well on lensflares.

    And it’s free.
