    Hi everyone,
Is there a way to apply true lens distortion in c4d? I’m rendering with vray 1.1 and need the lens distortion to be in the rendered image and correctly anti aliased i.e. Not applied in after effects as a post effect as this leads to over scaling of pixels and poor soft anti aliasing.

Does anyone know of a way? Ideally you would be able to set real values to composite onto filmed footage. We have scooby cam if that helps?

    Thanks in advance.

What kind of distortion are you looking for? how much?
Sometimes modeling a lens with a transparent material and refraction placed in front of the camera can get a good look… however that would be pretty tough to match in compositing.

Interesting idea Randy – thanks. I wouldnt have thought to do it that way.

Would the AA be as crisp as if it wasn’t distorted? Or would C4D soft the AA in the refraction?

In response to your question, I will need lens distortion likened to that of a wide angle lens so quite extreme on eg. an exterior wide shot of a building.

VRay for C4D has a number of lens distortion functions built in. Go to Render>VRayBridge>VRay Camera and change the type from standard to spherical or fisheye.
