    hey guys, morning.

    ok, check this screenshots out:
    https://i48.tinypic.com/flfzpx.jpg

its from a movie called “crash”.

anyway, tried to make the same effect in AE and failed.
used “lens blur” effect, but it looked weak compared to the movie effect.
I mean, look at that. you can see the lights so strong and big, its beautiful.

    any ideas?
    thank you in advance

I dont have the complete answer, but i do remember this being mentioned in Mark Christiansens book (Studio Techniques). You really need your comp to be in 32 bit mode to retain the brightness when adding the lens blur. Also you may want to try using the Exposure filter as that is also 32bit aware, and can help with accurate light effects.

    i have…

download the presets that Andrew Kramer gives away at Videocopilot.net…one of his presets is called Bloom, and i think it might do just what you need…i just tried it myself and its pretty cool.

That’s not an effect, it’s just a focus pull on the camera. You can try to recreate it in AE but it will never look quite the same as shooting it for real.

There is a depth of field plug in called Frischluft that does a nice job of defocusing https://www.frischluft.com/lenscare/index.php
