Using Vegas 7 I have a client that wants their 43 minute training video I produced posted on their web-site. Ideas on how to do that? I have seen videos for training on a site or from a link that are close to an hour and they download pretty fast, but haven’t a clue as to how to do that. Thanks.

It’s gonna be tough with an old program like Vegas 7 that existed before the AVC/H.264 Internet format became popular. I would upgrade to Vegas pro 10 and use the “Internet…” templates that are built into it. If you want to do it with Vegas 7 you can render as MainConcept AVC/AAC. Start with the Apple iPod 640×480 Video template and adjust the dimensions if your project is 16:9 or leave them alone if you’re delivering 4:3. You could also try the Sony AVC encoder but I believe that back then the MainConceopt encoder was better back then.

Thanks John. I tried that and it seems to work although the video I rendered was only 4 1/2 minutes. It took the size from 65.8mb which I originally rendered it to mpeg1, down to 21.5mb mp4. Was vegas 10 the first version to have the internet conversions you are talking about or did version 8 or 9 have it first? Thought I might be able to find an earlier version for less than the current price for upgrading to 10. And if I did upgrade do you have any idea how large the file I would need to upload to his site would be using the internet conversions. Thanks.

I believe the internet templates were added in Vegas Pro 8.0 but the Sony AVC encoder has gotten better with each new version so I would get the latest (10.0) which also supports GPU acceleration.

The size of the file would depend on how long they are willing to let their customers wait for the video to download and if their customers have a high-speed internet connection. A few hundred megabytes should be fine as a start and see how long it takes to view from their site.
