  • Led down the garden path with a multibridge extreme and decklink purchase?

    Hello All

I informed my vendor that I wanted to do the following:
    1) Upgrade to an SD/HD SDI workflow with the ability to import and export to analog SD devices. Such as a BetaCam deck or non SDI DVD Recorder.

    2) Monitor SD video using SDI broadcast monitor via the Multibridge SDI output
    3) Monitor HD material using a cinema display via the Multibridge extreme DVI output
    4) Monitor audio using my Genlec analog speakers via the Multibridge XLR output

    Problem:
My MAC is a Pre PCI express Duel 2.5 G5. So no PCI express to connect the multibridge.

My vendor informed me that I could use a DeckLink HD Pro (Single Link card) in the Mac and the Multibridge as a breakout box for monitoring and routing all my source signals.

    Problem is I can

Just one thought, it sounds like you want to do a lot of SD with the HD. The HD Pro Single Link card lacks some hardware that assists with realtime downconversion, the dual link card has the extra hardware. They don’t make this distinction on their site, even though I only use single link, i wish I has gotten the higher end card.

    Hmmm

Yes. the bulk of my work is SD however we are moveing into HD.

Even if the card dosent do the down coversion then wouldnt it be handled by the multibridge useing my purposed setup?

Am I mistaken, but I thought BlackMagic actually had a PCI-X converter card that could host that MUltibridge Extreme card on a pre-PCI express MAC?

    Hello

At first my vendor told me the same thing. But when I was about to purchase he then told me that BlackMagic stopped making them…

The Deckink card was offered as the only alternative.
