Leaving Neverland Documentary & Fair Use
Hey All,
So I started watching the very disturbing “Leaving Neverland” documentary on HBO. Obviously Michael Jackson’s estate has nothing to do with this documentary. So how is it that the filmmakers were able to use so much footage of Michael Jackson? Specifically, how were they able to use so many clips from the “Thriller” music video (with the music clearly audible), and so much footage of Jackson performing other various songs? There’s no way these filmmakers “got the proper license” to use so much of Jackson’s music in this documentary. The whole thing makes the fair use argument seem pretty easy (and yes I am aware that HBO has its own powerhouse entertainment attorneys).
Thoughts?
