Learning the FCP basics
Hello,
I’m a producer who wants to learn how to edit. I’ve been around FCP for over ten years–but I’ve always been in the chair at the desk behind the editor! I know a few basics, but I really need to start on the ground floor with a broad overview of the software and I could benefit from a lesson in the fundamentals. I prefer to learn in my home office and on my own schedule. Does anyone have recommendations for books, videos, websites (aside from the Cow), etc., that I should refer to while learning more about FCP and taking my first steps towards learning how to edit?

There are a lot of great tutorials here on the Cow.
Look up Jerry Hofmann’s Book which was done way back for FCP 4 but it still holds up very well.
And DEFINITELY get Shane Ross’ “Getting Organized in Final Cut Pro” available here in the Cow Store. THE best DVD you will get and it should be in every editor’s library. Without proper organization, it doesn’t matter how good of an editor you are, FCP will be a beast.

I’m in sort of a similar situation, but I’ve been an editor on another software program and need to learn FCP fast. I went to lynda.com and found a ton of training at very reasonable rates.
