Learning the basics
Posted by Sean Meehan on March 12, 2009 at 4:36 pmHello All,
I am VERY VERY new to Avid editing (I downloaded the trial Media Composer two days ago), and I was curious if anyone knew of any great free tutorials for super beginners. I’ve been editing with Final Cut Pro for 3 years now, so I’m not an editing noob, but I’m certainly an Avid noob. Thanks!

I don’t know of any free tutorials. You may try lynda.com and see how far you can get without paying. The full version of MC comes with some pretty good tutorials, plus footage.
This and the Avid forum are good resources for answering questions. The forums over at Avid.com are good to. Don’t be shy about asking questions. I’ve been driving an Avid since 1994. I still learn new tips and tricks!
My favorite book is by Steve Bayes, called Avid editing basics. It’s available on Amazon.com.

Douglas (the guy making the tutorials) has been cranking these things out like clockwork. Very generous and gracious guy. I love his delivery and slower pace. Very easy to follow along, especially for the beginner.
