Just purchased Avid Media Composer (academic version) and am wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to begin learning. I have a strong knowledge base in FCP but no knowledge of Avid and need to learn from the beginning. I did notice that Avid offers online courses and am wondering if anyone has done these and what they thought of the courses, if they are worth it and if they could help one learn from the beginning, also, if anyone knows a more economic way to learn (i.e. not spending 500+) would be interesting in that information also.

thank you any info is appreciated!

The cheapest way to learn Avid is to post here at the COW! A great reference for any Avid editor is the ‘Avid Handbook‘ by Steve Bayes. I can’t keep a copy because people keep ‘borrowing’ it… I’ve also used the training DVD’s Avid sells – kinda’ pricey, but nice. If you have the money, I also recommend taking a 101 class.

Remember, the only stupid question is one that isn’t asked!
