Besides the “Broadcast Safe” filter in FCP, does anyone have any knowledge of a filter that will clamp (or fold) a signal within leagal limits without effecting the overall color saturation or color luminance? Back in the old analog days we called them Proc Amps. FCP’s proc amp will limit my signal, but can significantly degrade the intensity of the color sat and lum. I want to keep the zest of my vibrant yellow graphics without turning them to brown mustard.

Perhaps a 3rd party color corrector?

    Thanks for any leads.

    Michael,

I use Joe’s levels for this all the time, works great. joesfilters.com

I am interested in this as well. At my old place of employment we used to run most everything through a hardware legalizer when outputting to tape but I don’t currently own one. With today’s digital spot delivery systems (DG systems and the like) transient peaks too small to see on a digital scope have caused problems.

Another great filter for this problem is Sapphire’s Clamp Chroma under their Adjust Filters. A true clamp for both Chroma and Luma levels without lowering overall values. Perhaps an expensive route to solve just this one problem, but the rest of their effects are great.

    Brooks,
thanks for the lead. I like the extensive list of FX. Perhaps we can justify solving our problem this way. Our graphics dept is always looking for a few good filters. Looks like they’d get (and me too) more than a few with this package.

    Cheers,
