lcd hood & magnifier for 5D MKi
Posted by King Dexter on January 7, 2011 at 12:38 amI know it’s out there! Can’t seem to find it. Someone makes an lcd hood/magnifier for the 5D MarkII that attaches via the camera’s flash hot shoe – not by rubber bands. Thought it was Really Right Stuff but guess not. I’m sure it’s pricy by comparison but I’d like to look into it – Just can’t find it via most of the search engines.
Can anyone help??

January 7, 2011 at 3:43 amAre you sure you want to do that? There’s much better options that don’t take away your hot shoe.
LCDVF is magnetic and $150
Zacuto has a baseplate or a sticky frame that works great, though it costs more $375
I tried the hoodman and didn’t like it, to put it politely. I wound up with the Zacuto though I had reservations over the cost, but now I have no regrets and highly recommend it over the others. -

January 7, 2011 at 3:05 pmYou’d better check this out before you make any final decision – it’s a really extensive (and sometimes expensive) listing of what’s out there. There may be some new stuff now, but this list covers a lot of hoods I didn’t know about:

January 7, 2011 at 3:54 pmLooks like there are more options than I thought. I like the idea of being able to swing the hood out of the way. Seems it would also be advantageous for previewing still images in the field under bright conditions.
I’ll keep checking till I find the best device.
