Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Laying off 444

  • Posted by Samuel Smith on February 18, 2011 at 8:42 pm

    Hello,

I am having trouble laying off an Apple Pro Res 444 sequence to our HDCAM-SR deck. We are using an AJA Kona3 card with dual link going to the deck and an AJA GEN10 to send sync to the system and to the deck. When I go to the Edit To Tape window and start to lay off my sequence it says that it can not find the correct timecode on the tape so it never begins laying off. My tape has been black and coded to match my FCP sequence (23.98psf 1080) and I have double checked that the VITC and LTC timecode are matching on the tape. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks
    /sam

    Two possibilities Sam:

    1) Do you have any clips on the timeline that have been disabled?

    2) Have you tried exporting a self-contained QT Movie and putting that in a new sequence before printing to tape?

Both are very important things in these situations… Of course #2 takes care of both…

Unless you have malfunctioning equipment or a bad RS422 cable or connection, this has to be a simple problem.

Do you have the proper 23.98 sync set on the GEN10 so the deck’s servo will lock? This is assuming the deck is set to HD ref-in as well as the Kona card. Is this an SRW-5500, SRW-5800, SRW-5000?

Is your in-point on your ETT allowing for pre-roll on the tape?

Have you checked that your FCP device control is set to Sony 23.98 (not Panasonic, or any other Sony framerate) RS422 before opening ETT?

Is your AJA control panel set to dual link out for 4:4:4?

Is your Kona RS422 cable connected to the 9-pin I/O on the deck as opposed to the 9-pin I(in) on the deck?

You’re absolutely sure the tape was black/coded properly?

With your RS422 connected to the deck’s 9-pin I/O, if you open log and capture with the deck in remote, can you control the deck?
