I don’t know about these specific issues, but here’s what does work.
1. Keep layers separate and transparent.
2. Merge any layer effects, so the layer is flattened, but still transparent.
3. No alpha channels needed.
4. Export as layered PSD file.
5. Import into FCP X. This will import as a compound clips with layer structure and transparency values intact.
6. Optionally, you can break this apart on the timeline and you can also manipulate (transform, crop, add filters) to each layer on the timeline.See attached example.

October 29, 2013 at 2:48 pmFast forward a year and a half later, with FCP X 10.0.0.9
1) import layered .PSD into FCP X creates black shadows around transparent layers
2) I can change the .PSD file, it does update right away in both the event browser and the project’s timeline, preserving everything: position, movement of layers
BUT: – if I change a layer’s “bounding box” (ie if I draw outside of the box that contains every pixel of a layer) and then reimport, the position of the layer in FCP X is messed up.
– if I add new layers and reimport, FCP X doesn’t see the new layer and mixes other layers with the new one (probably taking layers by their order, not their names?)I’m trying to create simple animated storyboards in FCP X (importing the .PSD from sketchbook pro), and it “kinda works”
anyone having the same problems?

May 14, 2014 at 11:03 pmHi
A really weird thing has started happening when i import, or try to import PSD files into FCPX.
Usually I will pull a logo or whatever into my timeline. no problems. but now FCPX is telling me theres no content in the file.
please check attached image, and see highlighted logo.
any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!FCP X – ver 10.0.8

May 14, 2014 at 11:06 pmWhat’s on the PSD layers? Is there any rasterized media or is it all vector-based, like smart objects? Did you try flattening the file and import that as a test?
