Layering different aspect ratios in premiere
Hello All,
I have a video I’m editing, where I am mixing different footage from different cameras. I have Redo Footage 5K shot Wide Screen and standard 16:9 Interview footage.
The Red footage has all the B-Roll and cinematic shots we grabbed. The problem I’m facing is whenever I try to layer a RED shot over the 1080 Interview it scales down without the letterbox. So I see the 1080×1920 footage underneath it and it’s quite distracting as I’m building the story.
What I’m hoping to figure out is… Is there anyway my sequence can automatically letterbox the RED shots so when I drag them to the above video track I don’t see the video track underneath?
Any help would be appreciated as I have a deadline and have spent the last 3 hours trying to research this.

add a crop filter to the first red footage clip in the sequence…set the upper and lower % to what you want.
then copy the filter and paste it to all of the red clips.

Thanks for responding. When I add a crop filter it seems to only allow me to make my RED frame smaller, showing more of the 1080 footage underneath.
I’m going to add a reference picture below.

For no letter boxing, scale the Red footage up to fill the frame in the tab Effects Controls/Motion.
If you want black bar letter boxing, put a Black Video clip on a track between your interview tack and b-roll track. Use the same transition in&out on the Black Video that you use on the Red footage.

Ahh, yes, I thank you a million times. The black video worked perectly. I wish I saved myself hours earlier.
