For some reason it appears I cannot create new thread, it keeps giving me an old post I made.

An AE basic question. I create a new layer solid, pick color, then will add Noise Fractal and preview goes black and white in preview and when rendered.

Why is it like in Alpha. How do I correct in order to see and use color
    for noise effect?

you can try the blending mode options within the effect controls (not the blending modes within the timeline).

you could also try ‘colorizing’ with another effect like tint, tritone, colorama, hue/saturation or even curves or levels adjusting just the individual channels… but i think the blending modes will do what you need.

well In blending modes of effect I have soft light.

I am following a turorial. Am at the very begin of it.

    Step:
Create a new Solid (Layer / New / Solid) and choose a deep orange colour.

    Step:
In the timeline, click on this layer, then go to Effect / Noise & Grain / Fractal Noise.

In the tut and for this too work the fractal noise effects needs to be the solid color. In the Tutorial the preview shows color, but in my AE
    it is not in color.

I have tried using color correction etc but it has no effect and remains “like an alpha state”?
    Tried Restarting – no change.

so you create a new deep orange solid, add fractal noise and, at the bottom of the effect controls, set the blending mode to soft light and you still see just a gray scale fractal noise pattern rather than shades of orange?

is the tutorial online? if so, could you provide the link?
