    Hi,

I have a layer I am trying to add a gradient to but it keeps telling me the layer is not directly editable.

Basically, I have a smaller rectangular box within a bigger one. I can apply the gradient to the big box, but it won’t let me apply it to the small one (“the content of this layer is not directly editable”). How can I work around this and edit the layer?

    Thanks!

    Anthony

sounds like you have a shape layer. Try rasterizing the layer. If you want the shape to remain a vector mask create a new layer and drag (or option drag to copy) the vector mask to it and apply the gradient you want to the new layer.

Im having the same problem but on Photoshop CS6

Im a bit frustrated with the New CS6. I tried rasterizing the shape image and clicking on the top menu where it says transparency, on and off . But I can’t apply a gradient like I use to in Photoshop CS4.

Why Adove had to move the menus and tools bars around? Now I have to click more times in different places for the same actions.

Thanks to creativecow and you guys.
