Layer dimensions
Posted by Jurgen_t on July 18, 2007 at 4:48 amI am not sure of the correct termonology…but:
How can I apply different border dimensions to different layers in a composition? (eg 1 layer is 1280 x 720 and another layer is 1000 x 500, so when up scaling the small layer…it still do not exeed its borders – the big background layer makes up a kind of frame) a tip would be much apreciated.

July 18, 2007 at 12:57 pmhi …i think u can do that by not parenting your matt layer to your pos…that way your matt stays the same size as u scale your pos…cheers…merv

July 18, 2007 at 3:38 pmThank alot for trying helping…but i am not sure i get what you say ( iam really a starter)
“not parenting the matt to the position” As far as I can see i only have this scroll down thing which is called parent. Both Photoshop layers is set to none by default.
could you shortly explain how eventually doing what you say?

July 18, 2007 at 4:34 pmhi…im sorry…when i say ‘pos’ i actually mean the picture…lets say u have a picture that is 1000 by 500…then u need a matte that is the same value that is 1000 by 500…the picture is in the bottom layer and the matte is in the top layer…in the picture layer, select luma matte and the name of your matte…that way your picture is attached to your matte…now resize your matte smaller then resize your picture bigger or smaller and u have what u want i think…but if u parent your matte to your picture…what ever size u make your picture, your matte will follow in relation…i hope its what u wanted…cheers…merv…

This needs a little more explanation. It sounds like you’re describing a problem, but in order for us to know what the problem is we need to know what it is you’re trying to do. Do you want a frame around the smaller layer? Do you want the layers to be the same size? Be as specific as possible =)

July 18, 2007 at 11:38 pmYou should be able to accomplish the same thing if you create another new composition at 1280 x 720 and put your two footage compositions into this comp, the larger one on the bottom and the smaller on the top.
This would only require one render, but it will likely be about twice as long as either composition rendering separately =)

July 18, 2007 at 11:58 pmOk…thanks! I suppose it is just me having to learn this great programme to know better…everything ends up in final cut anyway, so i guess rendering in max quality in Animation mode will work just fine (or by the way : would 10 bit uncompressed give a better quality? ) I honestly cannot se any big difference.)
