Lavender scrims
Lavender scrims, also known as 1/2 singles, came up in conversation between myself and another DP while we were browsing a grip house. He mentioned that they were popular for beauty work in the past.
For cutting 1/3 of a stop… is there any other reason to use these scrims? I couldn’t make out any other effect on anything like highlights when I auditioned them in broad daylight. Am I missing out on something?

Good question… have some, but honestly don’t know if I’ve ever used them even once. One-third stop is a great deal more “fine tuned” than I usually ever have to do.
I look forward to hearing what those in here who know much more than me have to say… Rick? John?…

If you have the luxury to include at least one Lavender in your kit, so much the better. There are some rare times when reducing the light’s intensity by 1/4 stop is just what you want. But not often. These days we have few opportunities to tweak to such detail, but when we do, the Lavender is another tool to cherish.
