Yes, in fact I’m in Mexico City 🙂

I bought the input cable transformed in stereo in a store named Steren here in Mexico, so today I’m gonna bought the mono input. I was pretty dumb, cause the guy told me clearly: “it is mono, not stereo” and we told him to do the input in stereo. Dumb dumb me!!

Today I learned something 🙂

I actually have a mono XLR to stereo mono 1/8 phono but I’ve never had those problems. It looks like the wiring is crossed inside the cable. Which is really hard to do.

I would return it if you can.

Oh, I see. Well, I’m going in a couple of hours with this guy and tell him that it didn’t went well our experiment :S

Dunno if he is going to accept me the “experiment input/cable” in return, because we told him to do it, even when he told us not to do that :S

Also, here in Mexico we have this stupid politic that once you have bought something and it’s not what you expected from the product, it’s yours and you can’t return it, unless it’s from SAMS, Wallmart, Home Mart or another store like that, and sometimes in this stores they are a lilttle bit harsh. It’s not like in the US :S I have this positive experience once in San Diego with a lap top that I didn’t like and in New York with a Canon, but here in Mexico it’s crap, also in Europe they are pretty open minded about this.

Anyways, I think it cost me about the equivalent to $3USD.

A final question Timothy. Once I put my mono input into my lavalier, record my interview, etc.. do I have to do an aditional editing in FCPX with this new cable?

Once you get a proper cable, no you shouldn’t have to do any additional steps because FCP X will be able to determine the audio channels. However, FCP X isn’t always correct and you need to double check your audio assignments.

I just got a bunch of footage (coincidently filmed in Mexico) where the fellow running the audio was not familiar with the equipment and I had stereo mixes, dual mono, single mono in every combination. I still have to double check it all.

FCP X does a great job of guessing, but sometimes it is wrong. However, regarding the phase problem, in all reality you would never know unless you know what out of phase audio sounds like. I’ve never actually heard of it happening when recording audio and have never encountered the problem. Usually it is only comes up when you are setting up a studio or sound system and you hear it. Once you get an ear for it, it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Already bought the new mono input, gonna test it in a few hours.
