    Hello everyone,

We are numerous to have a problem of latency during the grading. About 1/2-1/3 second between the manipulations on the GUI and the SDI output of HDextrem 3. I have this problem from the beginning, from version 7.0.0.

    I received this from blackmagic.

    “Hi Robin,

We have done multiple tests here and we have zero delay on both our Resolve systems.

Can I ask which decklink drivers you are running ?

If you have installed drivers after installing Resolve this may be the cause of the issue as Resolve has it’s own proprietary drivers and not using them can be the cause of a slight delay.”

    All the best

Ive Seen the exact same daly on three different systems now.It has nothing to to with the computer, the panel of the media. it’s the video processing on the Decklink card .
I have no delay on the UI monitor . There is a minimum when using the ball controller , but it’s marginal.
The big one hits when any sort of video monitoring is active and gets worse when switching from 8 to 10 bit too .

That’s the problem because grading on the GUI is not the best solution. It’s strange for a hardware manufacture to create a software which has this problem on their cards.

That’s whats nice about systems like Nucoda and Scratch, where the SDI output is on a daughter card attached to the GPU. Your grades don’t have to go out over the system bus to the Decklink. Wouldn’t it be great if BMD partnered with Nvidia to create an SDI/HDMI output only option daughter card for those us of that don’t need capture? Might only work with the Quadro FX series tho’…

    Hey Robin,

Black Magic are fully aware of this latency as first demonstrated by Michael Cinquin here https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/277/2950 . So currently Black Magic’s Resolve on the Mac is not a real time grading solution. The “Real Time By Design” slogan on the website “refers to “real time” playback, but not “real time” grading. I’ll leave that for you to determine if the difference is misleading or intellectually dishonest.

In the mean time there are some tricks that you can do to get your latency down. If you are working in 1080 or higher, when grading set your timeline and video out to 720P. This should reduce it by 30-50%. When you have a client preview or render, just set it back. Davinci will keep all shapes intact.

    Cheers,

    Marcus.
