I do documentary film and am considering getting a laser distance measurer. I figure this might be useful in settings where I wont have the liberty of using tape like a crowd. Any thoughts on this? If you use one, is there a particular laser distance measurer you recommend?

    I use one pretty frequently.

I use the Stanley “Fat Max” laser tape… about a hundred bucks or so at Home Depot or Lowes.

Use it just like you would when focusing with a regular tape measure, measured from the subject to the film plane.

We do always tell talent to close their eyes before we take a reading, of course.
