    Hi.

Need to fix one end of a laser beam, and animate the other along a path. Lightning is the only plug in I can think of that would let me do that easily, but it’s lightning – probably too frenetic.

    Any thoughts? Thanks!

Draw the path with the Pen Tool, a mask, then M reveals the Mask Shape, sek=lect then Copy the Mask Shape.

Now set a keyframe for the Starting Point or Ending Point of Beam, and Paste.

You can drag the first or last keyframes to make the animation along the pth longer or shorter.

Why not use effect> render> beam? It has two points and a whole slew of other options.

I didn’t read the original post close enough, I agree with ScottieH, I thought you’d be using BEAM instead of Lightning (Although you cn paste the mask shape in there too.

here’s what i did for the shot in this episode: https://channel102.net/view.php?epid=206
(about two and a half minutes in)

    1. i set the end points at different places.
    2. i drew a mask that i wanted the beams to follow.
    3. i made a keyframe in “mask shape” in the mask drop down, and copied the keyframe.
    4. i pasted the keyframe in the START point of the two beams. this SHOULD then put spacial keyframes into the end point.
    5. tweak from there.
