Larger than Normal Ref Movies Firewire vs Uncompressed…Any Ideas?
I am a big fan of Ref Movies for obvious reasons. Lately though on our FCP5 run on a brand new G5 I have noticed the following.
If I capture footage via firewire, edit, and then export a sequence as a reference movie the ref movie is instantly available. HOWEVER….
If I capture footage through my Kona capture card as uncompressed 8 bit or 10 bit, edit…then export a sequence as a ref movie it can take anywhere from 5 minutes up to 15+ minutes to export a Reference Movie.
AND the reference movie is huge! It’s not as big as a self contained movie but it is much bigger than I would expect it to be because a reference movie is really just a pointer file “Referencing” all the data captured. Shouldn’t it not matter how the footage is captured if it is just a true pointer file to the capture?
Does anyone have any ideas on why this happening?
