We are planning a documentary to discuss a large format mural (info on the particular art can be found here: https://benton.truman.edu/murals_story.html). The mural takes up 3 walls of a large room. We are debating the best way to capture the artwork itself. We plan to also shoot a narrator in the room with a Canon 5D MKII. Here are the options we are considering:

    – Renting a RED Epic – probably with a dolly and jib

    – Shooting with a medium or large format camera – a medium we are not familiar with, but are willing to learn. We would then add movement in post

    – Shooting with the 5D MKII – we could take stills and add movement if the stills are of high enough quality, or we could film the movement.

We are going to take a test run next week and take stills with the 5D MKII. We may also try some filming with it while we are there.

We are totally open to suggestions and tips, as we have never shot any artwork before, much less something of this scale. I am happy to answer any questions that need clarification.
