I am not sure if this is the right forum to post this, so my apologies up front if I chose incorrectly.

I have an FTP server setup in my office for clients to upload small files to me….normally under 5gB. Works fine. But it’s limited to my local DSL speeds and if they get disconnected at 99%, they have to start all over.

I have some projects coming up where I need to have clients upload large files, between 5 and 30gB and I would like to have something that removes the burden on my local bandwidth and allows for start and stop of the upload/download. I realize I will have to download the files since they wont be going directly to my servers, but I think this will be overall a better solution.

    Anyone know of anything?

Have your clients upload image sequences, rather than QT movies. This way, if you get disconnected 80% or 99% of the way through, you only have to pick up from the last frame number.

Was just reading about this on the IMUG ( https://media-motion.tv/IMUG-list.html ).

Here’s a link to Darren Marshall’s blog discussing just this:

    https://dazpix.co.uk/blog/10sharefiles/

And a clip from one of the posts by Randy Tinfow:

For a long time we were providing a file sharing service for our customers for a monthly fee of up to $50-250/month, depending on bandwidth committed. About a year ago I decided not to invest more time and money to update our mechanism, so I did a pretty thorough job of researching all the various mechanisms so we could painlessly migrate our customers.. What was most important for them was:

    -speed
    -branding
    -granular access
    -e-mail integration
    -easy administration
    -receipts
    -desktop integration

By all accounts https://www.sharefile.com was the leader. Most importantly for us, it was way faster than any other service. A couple weeks ago we had to move 2GBs of files in less than half an hour to accommodate some last minute changes for a trade show. We would not have been able to do it without Sharefile, which tested for us at about 2.5x the datarate of YouSendit’s Business Plus paid plan.

Hope this helps (I also hope Randy & Darren don’t mind me quoting them…),
