Hey folks, I’m putting a suite together for Final Cut/After Effects productions in length of 5-10 min. What kind of performance difference will I see between using a macbook pro (2×2.33 ghz/3Gb ram) VS mac pro desktop (2×3 ghz/2Gb ram)?

I appreciate your responses, and I have received alot of good advice from this forum so far 🙂

HUGE difference in render times. Desktop will smoke a laptop every time, especially when you get into After Effects.

You in Atlanta? I was an editor ’90 – 95 at CNN Atlanta, primarily Environment Unit.

Thanks for the quick answer. I was thinking desktop was the way to go.

Yes, I’m at the CNN Center, since 1999. I post a daily news open in an Axial suite (vintage!). A big fan of Good Eats here–I’ve also been doing “kooky” video trix since 1995. Send any Good Eats leftovers down our way; we all post for food!

Holy Cow! Haven’t heard of an Axial in ages. Used to run an Axial 2010 with a Philips Diamond Digital 20 switcher at Foxwoods Resort Casino back in ’96. LOVED that system.

Glad to hear. It is a fun show and we’re lucky to be a small part of a great team.

(if you see just an ad on the first page, click on “Continue on to Digital Content Producer” or just wait)

See the comparison chart in the bottom.

    Hope it helps

The MacPro has 4 cores, versus 2 cores on a MacBook. I have both and there is no comparison , the MacPro smokes!
