Ok, I’m settled on buying a new PC laptop for my new suite. Sorry about posting another laptop thread, but all the other ones are old.
I’m leaning toward the Toshiba Qosmio. Has anyone else used it with CS5? Does anyone have any other recommendations, or is the Qosmio the best for the money? Thanks in Advance!!

What do you expect to do with it exactly? Most of the toshiba models are 4gigs of ram… I would say that’s the minimum to do any kind of heavy lifting with CS5. I might find the hard drive a little limiting as far as size but it does have firewire and, apparently, eSATA which is quite useful.

I would say it’d suffice as a DIT laptop on set, or rough editing while traveling. You may be able to hack the graphics card to work with GPU acceleration for Premiere if it has a gig or more of video ram. If it’s shared ram, performance may be spotty.

The only laptops formally supported by Adobe for CS5 GPU acceleration (those with Quadro 5000M) are over $4.5K – so a well configured Qosmio with GTX460M for under $2K does look good!

I don’t have any experience with Toshibas (been working with HP almost exclusively for the past 6-10 years). If I read it right, no DisplayPort and no USB 3.0. It does have a combo USB 2.0/eSATA port, as well as ExpressCard/34. Looks like the standard warranty is 1 year, vs. 3 years on HPs and Dells “workstation class” laptops.

If I was in the market for a CS5-optimized laptop, I’d go for Qosmio – seems like it’s one of the best deals around, and is better rated than similar models from Asus.

I´d like to know about Sony laptops – will them work correctly with Premiere Pro CS5 accelerating render?
I´m planning to buy one – VPCF 1390X with i7-740 QM, full HD display (1980×1080) and graphic card Nvidia 425M GPU with 1 G of memory, it has usb-3 and e-sata. In theory it will work, but if anybody has experience with them? Any help, please.
    Thank you
