Just curious if anyone has been using Sony Vegas / Laptop for HD editing in the field? Any useful comments / tips / advice would be great!

I’m using a Samsung R580. 500 GB drive, 8 GB RAM, 1 Quad core i5. 64 bit W7 w/Vegas 9.0e. Works fine. I use a dual quad core for desktop use. My laptop has problems showing HD footage without stuttering, but I don’t really care. If I do, I dump the footage to a eSATA (the laptop supports eSata), and it runs fine from that. I didn’t want to spend the money to get two internal drives (I spent less than $900 total). You can buy the Samsung machines from Best Buy. They compare favorably to all the other similarly priced machines. The eSata, hard drive size, RAM and other features are very competitive. I would have preferred a non glare screen, but most of them have that.
