  • LaCie won’t appear on desktop

I have had occasional issues with LaCie Porsche and D2 drives for over a year related to the drive being recognized on the desktop upon initial powering up of the drives and a PowerBook or PowerMac.

If the drives don’t initially appear on the desktop, usually a quick unplugging and replugging of either the Firewire cable or the power cable for the drive usually immediately brings the drive to the desktop.

Not so for the last 90 minutes.

During the last four weeks I have used the D2 BigDisk 500gb drive for an hour-long FCE project, with a PowerMac G5/Dual Motorola. I have connected the D2 via USB port to keep the Firewire ports available for the camera and an Nnovia drive. Once or twice upon initial powering up the D2 failed to come to the desktop, but it was always quickly remedied with the afore mentioned methods.

When initially using this drive months ago, purchased used, I could not bring the drive to the desktop at all. Upon consulting the previous owner, he said it probably had to be Mac formatted. I formatted it and have used it successfully since for many projects.

In all cases, even when the drive does not appear on the desktop, inquiries into the hardware connections shown in System Profiler ALWAYS list the drive as connected and recognized.

I have also just tested the drive on my PowerBook, and it also fails to come to the desktop after 30 minutes of attempts.

Deadling for outputting my project fast approaching.
    Thanks in advance for help.
